Vision Flashcards
Fovea
Focal point on the retina. Acuity is highest here.
Saccades
Eye movements, random and help create clear picture.
Subcortical visual processing
Visual info - retina (ganglion cells) - Optic chiasm - thalamus - LGN
LGN
In thalamus, two layers: Magnocellular system large neurons. Parvocellullar system, smaller neurons
Optic radiation
Axons in LGN lead to the Primary visual cortex (V1)
Dorsal stream
Where stream, primary to parietal cortex. Space and motion
Ventral stream
What stream. Primary to temporal. Colour and form
Colour
Qualities: Hue (actual colour) Saturation (how colourful) brightness. Processed in V4
Cerebral achromatopsia
Damage to V4, can’t see colour
Monocular component
Depends on learned cues, occlusion (shapes blocked by those in front. Size and distance(farther away is smaller) and motion parallax )closer objects appear to move faster
