Morling Chapter 12 Flashcards
Interaction effects
Whether the effect of the original independent variable depends on the level of another variable
Factorial design
Two or more independent variables (factors)
Participant variable
Variable whose levels are selected , not manipulated (like age, gender, ethnical etc)
Moderator
A factor/variable that changes the relationship between two other variables
Main-effect
The overall effect of one independent variable on the dependent variable, averaging over the levels of the other independent variable
Marginal means
The arithmetic means for each level of an independent variable, averaging over levels of the other independent variable
Statistically significant main effect
The difference between the marginal means computed with 95% interval. If it does not include 0 it is statistically significant.
Mixed factorial design
One independent variable is manipulated as independent-groups and the other is manipulated as within-groups.
