Viruses Flashcards
What do all viruses have
Genetic material - codes for vital protein
Capsid - protects genetic material
Attachment proteins - are complementary to and bind to receptors on its specific host cell
What is a viral envelope
It’s picked up from the host cell and it hides the virus from white blood cells
What’s reverse transcriptase
An enzyme which makes dna from rna
The dna then goes into the host cell nucleus and takes over the cell
What’s a capsid
It protects the virus dna or rna
What’s an attachment protein
They are specific for each virus
Meaning that different viruses will bond to complementary receptors on host cells
Meaning that viruses can only bind to one type of cell
Why are viruses acellular
-no metabolic reactions
No cell spur face membrane
No organelles
Can’t replicate by themselves
