Binary Fission Flashcards
1
Q
What is binary fission?
A
Where bacteria divides
Circular dna replicates
Plasmids replicate (as many times)
DNA elongates and the DNA attached to the cell wall separate
Then there’s two new bacteria - cytoplasmic division
2
Q
How do you find out the number of cells produced in binary fission?
A
Always 2(n) - n being the number of times the bacteria has replicated
3
Q
How do you find out the amount of times bacteria cells have replicated
A
You do log2(n)
Always use 2
N is the number of cells we want to find out that have been replicated
