humoral immunity Flashcards
what is the humoral response?
-pathogen invades the body
-antibody in the surface of a B cell bind to specific antigen which activate the B-Cells along with T cells chemicals ( cytokines activate the B cell for mitosis)
-plasma cells are clones of Bcell which release specific antibodies. the antibodies travel through blood to site of infection. the antibodies bind with the antigen to stimulate phagocytosis of the pathogen
-memory B cells (clones of the B-cell) remain in the body and can reproduce rapidly to produce an instant supply of plasma cells so if it invades again
explain the specificity of B-Cells
each B cell produces its own type of antibody which are known as monoclonal antibodies
each pathogen will have different antigens on its surface so many different B cells will be stimulated to produce different types of antibody
What do memory cells do
Remain in the body for many years
Can reproduce rapidly to produce instant supply of plasma cells if the same pathogen invades the body again
