What are orderable/performable procedures?
Procedure that the provider is not performing herself but instead ordered to an RN for example. When the RN completes the order, it will trigger a charge.
What are the differences between Orders and Charges?
Orders: Billing status is inactive, Code is three alpha and a numeric, Code type is Custom.
Charges; Billing status active; code is CPT or HCPS; code type is CPT
What does the charge router do?
Check for errors; routes charges to billing; modify charges, assign a billing destination (PB or HB)
Where do you link orderable and performable procedures to charges?
OPC button
If you select Link Type of Charge Router, what does this mean under “Linked Chargeables” in OPC
This means that this chargeable should always be linked with this Orderable/performable which is the job of the charge router
If you select Charge Type of “Professional” under “Linked Chargeables” in OPC, what does this mean?
This means that the chargeable should be sent to professional billing instead of hospital billing
Why should orderable procedure records always be separate from chargeable procedure records?
Easier to maintain and build based on their workflows. Besides, billing must occur based on what was actually performed.
What is a charge interface.
A link between two systems where charges continuously flow form interface into epic.
Which part of Epic receives the charge information from the clinical applications and sends it to billing?
Charge Router.
