Vessels Of Foot Flashcards
Tibial nerve passage in foot
Inferior to the medial malleolus, the tibial nerve divides into medial and lateral plantar nerves
Medial plantar nerve
Motor to
Abductor hallucis
Flexor hallucis brevis
Flexor digitorum brevis
Medial lumbrical
Sensory to
Skin of the medial soul, and medial 3 1/2 digits
Lateral plantar nerve
Motor to
All other foot muscles
Sensory to
Skin of the lateral sole and lateral one and a half digits
Cutaneous innervation of the dorsum of the foot
Medial side- saphenous nerve
Lateral side - superficial peroneal nerve and sural nerve
Posterior tibial artery division
Inferior to the medial malleolus, the posterior tibial artery divides into medial, plantar and lateral planter arteries
Anterior tibial artery continuation
Dorsalis pedis artery is the continuation of the anterior tibial artery supply in the dorsum of the foot
It divides into the deep planter artery in the arcuate artery
Arcuate artery gives rise to digital arteries for digits 2-5.
Medial plantar artery
Supplies the medial side of the sole
Runs distally between abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis
Between layers one and two
Lateral plantar artery
Run laterally between flexor digitorum brevis and quadratus Plantae (first and second layers) to base of fifth metatarsal
Turns medially at base of fifth metatarsal and heads between third and fourth layers to the base of first metatarsal as the plantar arch
Plantar arch joins deep plantar branch of the dorsalis pedis
Plantar arch gives rise to metatarsal and digital arteries for supply of blood to tarsal joint digits 1-5 and surrounding musculature
