Arterial And Nerve Of Leg Flashcards
Anterior tibial artery passage
Passes between tibia and fibula and descends down the anterior compartment of the leg
Change his name to the dorsalis pedis artery when it reaches the dorsum of the foot
Posterior tibial artery
Descends short way, and gives off the peroneal artery which descends the lateral aspect of the posterior compartment and supplies, posterior and lateral compartment of the leg
descends down the posterior compartment, passing posterior to the medial malleolus and divides into the medial and lateral plantar arteries
Cutaneous nerve supply in the leg
Saphenous
Sural
Superficial peroneal
Deep peroneal
Saphenous
Supplies skin on the medial side of the leg and foot
Originates from the femoral nerve, and descends through the adductor canal
Sural
Originates from tibial in common peroneal nerve
Supplies the skin of the posterior and lateral aspect of the leg and foot
Superficial peroneal
Skin on the distal third of the anterior surface of the leg and dorsum of the foot
Deep peroneal
Skin of the first interdigit space
Deep peroneal nerve (motor)
Supplies muscular innervation to the anterior compartment of the leg
It runs with the anterior tibial artery and ends with branches, innervating the ankle joints and skin between the first and second digits
Tibial nerve (motor)
Travels with the posterior tibial artery down the back of the leg and passes posterior to the medial malleolus and divides into medial and lateral plantar nerves in the sole of the foot
Superficial peroneal (motor)
Supplies innervation to the muscles of the lateral compartment of the leg
Innervates the skin along the distal aspect of the anterior surface of the leg, dorsum of the foot and digits 3 to 5
