Thigh Flashcards
What divides the thigh into three compartments?
Extensions of the deep fascia lata- intermuscular septa
Anterior compartment of the thigh
Contains leg extensors and the femoral nerve innervates them
Medial compartment of thigh
Contains thigh adductors obturator nerve innervates them
Posterior compartment of the thigh
Leg flexors, and thigh extensors
innervated by sciatic nerve
Subcostal nerve
Supplies the lateral aspect of the thigh anterior to the greater trochanter
Illiohypogastric n
Lateral branch- skin over the superlateral butt
Anterior branch- skin superior to the pubis
Ilioinguinal n
Travels through the superficial inguinal ring
innervate the inferior pelvis
travels into the proximal medial aspect of the thigh
Genitofemoral n
Branches that extend into the pelvis
Branches that innervate the skin of thigh inferior to the inguinal ligament on the medial aspect
Lateral femoral cutaneous n
Innervates the lateral and anterior parts of the skin of the thigh
Passes under the lateral aspect of the inguinal ligament
Extends laterally and distantly from the greater trochanter to the area just proximal to the knee
Femoral nerve
Innervates the skin of the anterior and medial thigh
Anterior femoral cutaneous
Arises from the femoral nerve in the femoral triangle
Runs along the path of the sartorius muscle, and innervates the skin of the anterior medial aspect of the thigh
Muscles of the anterior compartment
Quadriceps femoris
-rectus femoris
-vastus intermedialis
-Vastus lateralis
-vastus medialis
