Vessels Flashcards
Superior thyroid artery
to thyroid gland, infrahyoid region & larynx. The superior laryngeal artery branches from the superior thyroid artery. This artery pierces the thyrohyoid membrane with the internal laryngeal nerve
Ascending phayrngeal artery
to pharynx, prevertebral muscles, meninges (via jugular canals), tympanic membrane, soft palate
Lingual artery
to tongue and oral mucosa, suprahyoid region, sublingual glands, tonsils (runs deep to hyoglossus muscle)
Facial artery
to submandibular gland, lips, nose, facial muscles, and angle of the eye (runs deep to submandibular gland)
Occipital artery
to sternocleidomastoid muscle, meninges, posterior scalp (“held” against the external carried artery by the hypoglossal nerve)
Posterior auricular artery
to tympanic membrane, ear, posterior scalp
Superficial temporal artery
to parotid gland, ear, face, zygomatic and temporal region of face
-gives off the transverse facial artery before ascending
Maxillary artery
infratemporal fossa, nasal cavity and superior pharynx
Vertebral artery
to brain via transverse foramina and foramen magnum
Internal thoracic artery
posterior aspect of interior chest wall
Thyrocervical trunk
Inferior Thyroid a. – thyroid and larynx.
Transverse Cervical a. – scalene & post. Triangle mm., brachial plexus.
Suprascapular a. – area above the scapula and rhomboids.
Ascending Cervical a. – area around scalenes and anterior tubercles; spinal cord
Costocervical trunk
Costocervical Trunk:
Supreme Intercostal a. – first and second intercostal spaces.
Deep Cervical a. – prevertebral and deep neck structures
Thoracic anterior wall
anterior intercostals - branches of internal thoracic and musculophrenic
Thoracic posterior wall
posterior intercostals - branches of aorta and costocervical trunk
