Midazolam Classes:
-Benzodiazepine
-Hypnotic

-Anticonvulsant
Midazolam MOA:
-Produces sedation by acting on the limbic system, thalamus and hypothalamus
-Binds to GABA benzodiazepine receptors in the brain
-Raises seizure threshold
-Produces tranquilizing effect on the CNS
Midazolam Indications:
-Seizure activity
-Status epilepticus
-Procedural sedation for intubation & cardioversion
-Chemical restraint for agitated delirium
Midazolam Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity
Midazolam S/E:
-Respiratory depression
-Respiratory arrest
-Bradycardia
-Hypotension
-Transient amnesia
-Dizziness
-Drowsiness
-Sedation
-Nausea/Vomiting
-Blurred vision
Midazolam Adult dosages:
-Sedation IV/IO: 0.1mg / kg, max 4.0 mg
-Sedation IM: 0.2 mg / kg, max 10 mg
-Procedural sedation IV/IO: 0.5 - 2.5 mg, max 0.1mg/kg
-Chemical restraint IV/IO: 0.05 - 0.1 mg/kg
-Chemical restraint IM: 0.1 - 0.15 mg/kg
Midazolam PEDS dosages:
-Seizure IV/IO: 0.05 - 0.1 mg/kg
-Seizure IM: 0.2 mg/kg, max 10 mg
-Procedural Sedation IV/IO: 0.05 - 0.5 mg/kg, max 0.1 mg/kg
Midazolam Onsets of Action:
-IV/IO: 2-5 min
-IM: 15-30 min
