Phenylephrine MOA:
-Vasoconstricts blood vessels in the nasal passages
-Reduces the risk of bleeding during insertion of nasotracheal tube
Phenylephrine Indications:
Administered prior to insertion of nasotracheal tube
Phenylephrine Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity
Phenylephrine S/E:
None in emergency setting
Phenylephrine Adult dosages:
-1 to 2 sprays in the nostril
Phenylephrine Route & Supply:
-Nasal
-Spray bottle

Immediate

Propofol class:
(Short acting) General anesthetic; Sedative-hypnotic
Propofol MOA:
Sedative-hypnotic agent that is suspected to produce effects by the passive modulation of the inhibitory function of the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) through the ligand-gated GABA receptors
Propofol Indication
Intensive care unit sedation of intubated mechanically ventilated adult patients
Propofol contraindications:
-Hypovolemia
-Hypersensitivity
Propofol S/E:
-Seizure
-Apnea
-Dysrhythmias
-Hypotension or Hypertension
-Rash/itching
-Injection site reactions
-Involuntary muscle movement
