DESCRIPTION
INHIBITS THE MOVEMENT OF CALCIUM IONS ACROSS CELL MEMBRANES. VERAPAMIL DECREASES ATRIAL AUTOMATICITY, REDUCES AV CONDUCTION VELOCITY, AND PROLONGS THE AV NODAL REFRACTORY PERIOD

ONSET- 1-5 MINUTES
DURATION- 30-120 MINUTES
INDICATIONS
PT WITH NARROW- COMPLEX REENTRY SVT OR SVT DYSRHYTHMIAS
A-FLUTTER WITH RVR
A-FIB WITH RVR
MULTIFOCAL ATRIAL TACHYCARDIA
CONTRADICTIONS
HYPERSENSITIVITY, SICK SINUS SYNDROME, 2ND OR 3RD DEGREE HEART BLOCK, SINUS BRADYCARDIA, HYPOTENSION, CARDIOGENIC SHOCK, SEVERE HEART FAILURE, WPW SYNDROME WITH ATRIAL FIBRILATION OR FLUTTER,
ADVERSE REACTIONS
DIZZINESS, HEADACHE, NAUSEA AND VOMITING, HYPOTENSION, BRADYCARDIA, COMPLETE AV BLOCK, PERIPHERAL EDEMA.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
HOW VERAPAMIL IS SUPPLIED
PARENTERAL- 5 MG/2ML IN 2-,4-,5- ML, VIALS OR 2- ML 4- ML AMPULES
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
INITIAL DOSE- 2.5-5 MG SLOW IV BOLUS OVER 2 MINUTES
REPEAT DOSE- 5-10 MG BOLUS IN 15-30 MINUTE UNTIL DESIRED AFFECT IS ACHIEVED

BE PREPARED TO RESUSCITATE
