CREATES GLYCOGENOLYSIS & GLYCOGENESIS ONLY IF PANCREAS HAS GLYCOGEN

ONSET- WITHIN 1 MINUTE
DURATION- 60-90 MINUTES
INDICATIONS
HYPOGLYCEMIA
-CALIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER OR BETA BLOCKER TOXICITY
ADVERSE REACTIONS
TACHYCARDIA, HYPOTENSION, NAUSEA AND VOMITING ( IV USE) URICARTIA
DRUG INTERATIONS
-EFFECTS ON ANTICOAGULANTS MAY BE INCREASED IF GIVEN WITH GLUCAGON
-DO NOT MIX WITH SALINE
HOW GLUCAGON IS SUPPLIED
DILUTE 1 UNIT (1MG) OF WHITE POWDER IN 1 ML OF DILUTING AGENT
DOSAGES
-HYPOGLYCEMIA- 1 MG IM/IN; MAY REPEAT IN 7-10 MINUTES
-CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER TOXICITY- 3-10 MG SLOW IV OVER 3-5 MINUTES
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
-PREGNANCY SAFTEY- CATEGORY B
-NOT A FIRST LINE CHOICE FOR HYPOGLYCEMIA
-MAY CAUSE VOMITING AT A HIGHER DOSE
-INEFFECTIVE IF PT DOES NOT RESPOND TO SECOND DOSE
