ACTS ON THE LIMBIC SYSTE AND CORTEX TO BLOCK AFFERENT TRANSMISSION OF IMPULSES ASSOCIATED WITH PAIN PERCEPTION.
ONSET & DURATION
ONSET: WITHIN 30 SECONDS
DURATION: 5-10 MINUTES UP TO 1-2 HOURS
INDICATIONS
-ANALGESIA, EITHER AS INITIAL AGENT OR WHEN SEVERE PAIN IS REFRACTORY TO OTHER TREATMENTS.

-LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS: HYPOTENSION, BRADYCARDIA, RESPIRATORY DEPRESSION

MAY INCREASE EFFECTS FROM ETHYL ALCOHOL, OPIOIDS, CNS DEPRESSANTS, AND SELECTIVE SEROTONIN REUPTAKE INHIBITORS

10-, 50-, AND 100- MG/ML VIALS
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
EXCITED DELIRIUM:
2MG/KG IV OVER 1 MINUTE OR 4 MG/KG IM OR IN
PAIN MANAGMENT
MODERATE PAIN: 0.5 MG/G IN ( MAX INITIAL DOSE 25 MG; MAX CUMULATIVE DOSE 100 MG)
SEVERE PAIN: 0.25MG/KG IM,IV,IO( MAX INITIAL DOSE 25 MG; MAX CUMULATIVE DOSE 100 MG)
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
PREGNANCY SAFTEY: CATEGORY C
MAY INCREASE BP, MUSCLE TONE AND HR
DOSAGE NEEDS TO BE INDIVIDUALIZED
