DESCRIPTION
ACTS PRIMARILY ON CNS INCREASING THE PAIN THRESHOLD BY INHIBITING THE ISOFORMS OF CYCLOOXYGENASE, ENZYMES THAT ARE INVOLVED IN PROSTAGLANDIN SYNTHESIS.
ONSET & DURATION
ONSET- ORALLY: 10- 30 MINUTES
IV- 3-5 MINUTES
DURATION- PO: 3-4 HOURS
IV: 4-6 HOURS
INDICATIONS
TEMPORARY RELIEF OF FEVER, MILD OR MODERATE PAIN
CONTRAINDICATIONS
HYPERSENSITIVITY
HEPATIC IMPAIRMENT
RENAL IMPAIRMENT
HYPOVOLEMIA, SEVERE
CHRONIC ALCOHOL USE
ADVERSE REATIONS
NAUSEA/VOMITING
RASH
HEADACHE
ANEMIA
THROMBOCYTOPENIA
DRUG INTERACTIONS
VOID WITH CONCURRENT USE OF ETHANOL, ISOIAZID, AND OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUGS THAT CONTAIN ACETAMINOPHEN.
HOW ACETAMINOPHEN IS SUPPLIED
325MG, 500MG,(CAPSULES)
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
MILD PAIN AND FEVER: 325- 1000 MG PO EVERY 4-6 HOURS AS NEEDED
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
PREGNANCY SAFTEY- CATEGORY B
HARMLESS AT LOW DOSES, MAY CAUSE ACUTE LIVER FAILURE IF TAKEN IN EXCESS
