they move air in and out of lungs for patients who are unable to breathe on their own

A
- unkink
- empty water out of tubing
- turn pt, ask to cough/deep breathe
- suction

low pressure alarms caused by
A
main tubing disconnection or o2 sensor tube disconnection. in both cases; reconnect the tubing unless its on floor then bag patient and call resp therapist

when vent setting is too high
A
pt is OVERventilated -> resp alkalosis -> panting

when vent setting is too low
A
pt is UNDERventilatied -> resp acidosis -> pt retaining Co2
