Vasopressors Flashcards
used to stimulate heart, used in acute care: ER and ICU
Atropine (IV)
may be used in the treatment of bradycardia (may also increase BP)
Phenylephrine (IV)
Used to control BP in Hypotension and Shock; increase BP, minimal decrease in HR
Dobutamine
Increase Force of Contraction, little increase in HR
Isoproterenol
increases HR and FOC
Norepinephrine (IV)
Excellent Alpha 1 agonist
Vasoconstricts vascular smooth muscle, nasal mucosa, bladder, and eyes
Epinephrine non cardiac
Non selective adrenergic agonist
low dose: beta driven effect
high dose: added alpha driven effect
epinephrine therapeutic uses
anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, asthma exacerbation, status asthmaticus, croup
Epinephrine and local anesthetics
use together because epinephrine constricts vessels which prolongs efficacy of local anesthetic in area during procedure
Dopamine therapeutic uses
Good for severe CHF with fluid overload
Increases urine output from diuretic effect on D1 (coronary and renal vessels)
Hemodynamic support: cardiogenic or septic shock
Dopamine doses
Low: D1 receptor activation (increase diuresis)
Moderate: add Beta 1 activation (increase CO, renal benefit)
High: add alpha 1 activation; less D1 activation (vasopressor)
