Adrenergics- sympatholytics and mimetics Flashcards
Non Amphetamine uses
ADHD, Obesity, Narcolepsy, Binge Eating
ADRs for Non Amphetamines
Less pronounced than Amphetamines: Increased SBP/DBP, tachycardia, reduced appetite, weight loss, dry mouth, teeth grinding, abdominal pain, insomnia
Non Amphetamines: Drugs
Methylphenidate and Dexmethylphenidate
Amphetamines MOA
promotes the release of NE and DA from presynaptic storage, blocks NE/DA reuptake
Amphetamine Uses
ADHD, Obesity, Narcolepsy, and Binge Eating
Amphetamine Drugs
Amphetamines, Dextroamphetamines, Lisdexamfetamines, Methamphetamines
Amphetamines ADRs
inceased SBP/ DBP, tachycardia, lost/reduced appetite, weight loss, dry mouth, teeth grinding, abdominal pain, insomnia
indirect Sympathomimetic: Cocaine
inhibits reuptake of NET in various locations
Indirect Sympatholytic: Metyrosine
Inhibits tyrosine hydroxylase to prevent conversion of tyrasine to dopamine; beneficial for pheochromocytoma
Indirect Sympatholytic: Reserpine
inhibits VMAT to prevent dopamine storage; used as a hypertensive
indirect sympathomimetic: Atomoxetime
involved in NET reuptake inhibition; good for kids with ADHD
indirect sympathomimetic: Modafinil
increases concentrations of NorEpi, Dopamine, Seratonin and glutamate and decreases GABA; used for narcolepsy and circadian rhythm disturbances
Labetalol and Carvedilol
Used to reduce BP and HR, Could cause reflex tachycardia, , labetolol is great for pregnancy hypertension
Epinephrine
used for Anaphylaxis, constricts vessels and increases BP, used to prolong local anesthetics
Dopamine uses
good for severe CHF with fluid overload
increases urine output
hemodynamic support: cardiogenic or septic shock
