Q

which 2 veins join to form the retromadibular vein and where

A

the superficial temporal vein and the maxillary veins join in the parotid gland. They travel to the angle of the mandible and divide into an ant. and post. division. The post division joins with the post. auricular to from the jugular, the ant joins the facial nerve to form the common facial vein which drains into the internal jugualr

Q

where does the external jugular travel?

A

in the superficial fascia (above the SCM), when right above the clavicle it goes behind the SCM and pierces the investing layer of cervical fascia and enters the subclavian vein

16
Q

what does the lingual artery supply?

A

it passes deep to XII and between the middle constrictor and hypoglossus muscles

17
Q

what does the facial artery supply

A

passes deep to the stylohyoid and post belly of digastric muscles, deep the submandibular gland and mandible, and emerges over the edge of the mandible anterior to the masseter muscle to enter the face

18
Q

what are the 3 posterior branches of the external carotid artery

A

ascending pharyngeal artery, the occipital artery, and the posterior auricular artery

19
Q

what does the occipital artery supply?

A

posterior aspect of the scalp

20
Q

what are the 2 terminal branches of the external carotid artery?

A

the superficial temporal artery and the maxillary artery

21
Q

where does the maxillary artery end up?

A

pterygoplatine fossa

22
Q

what are the components of the thyrocervical trunk? SITA

A

ascending cervical artery, transverse cervical artery, inferior thyroid artery, suprascapular artery

23
Q

what are the veins making the internal jugular vein

A

the superior bulb of the jugular vein (sigmoid sinus), the inferior petrosal sinus

24
Q

where does the internal jugular vein exit the skull

A

jugular foramen

25
Q

which veins drain into the internal jugular veins (MEDICAL SCHOOLS LET FUN PEOPLE IN + occipital)

A

inferior petrosal sinus, pharyngeal, facial, lingual, occipital, superior thyroid, middle thyroid

26
Q

what are the lymphatics of the neck

A

superficial nodes of the head, superficial cervical nodes, deep cervical nodes

27
Q

what are the components of the superficial nodes of the head

A

occipital nodes, mastoid nodes, pre-auricular and parotid nodes, submandibular nodes, submental nodes

28
Q

where are the superficial cervical lymph nodes

A

along the external jugular vein on the superior surface of the SCM

29
Q

where are the deep cervical lymph nodes

A

along the internal jugular vein

30
Q

where do lymphatic vessels from the right and left jugular and subclavian trunk drain>

A

into the right lymphatic duct (on the right), or the thoracic duct (on the left side)

31
Q

what does the superficial subfascial lymph node system drain

A

Circular between chin and occipital (occipital, mastoid, parotid, submandibular, and submental lymph nodes) and along the course of the external jugular vein.

32
Q

what does the deep lymph node system drain?

A

it has a bitaleral triangle arrangement, bounded anteriorly by lymph nodes nexxt to the internal jugualr vein, and posteriorly by the spinal lymph nodes cheain with supraclavicular lymph node

33
Q

the perivisceral lymph node system is made of

A

retropharyngeal, prelaryngeal, prethyroidean, pretracheal, recurrent nodes

34
Q

the internal jugular vein travels with what nerves cranially?

A

IX, X, XI
