what are you inspecting the hands for in a vascular exam?
temp, tar staining, CRT
what are you assessing the radial pulse for in vasc?
rate, rhythm, RR delay, Allens test
what are you assessing the carotids for
Character/volume
what are you assessing eyes for
pallor, xanthelasma, corneal arcus
what are you assessing the mouth for?
cyanosis, hydration
what are you assessing the chest and abdomen for?
scars, feel for AAA
which pulses do you assess?
femoral (offer), popliteal, posterior tibialis, dorsalis pedis
which bruits are you assessing for
SCARF
subclavian
carotid
aortic
renal
femoral
what are you inspecting on the legs
temp, discolouration, scars, oedema, hair loss, shiny skin, varicose veins, ulcers
what should you assess in the legs?
CRT, sensation using cotton wool, power
buergers test
lying flat, elevate legs 45deg, look for pallor
find angle where legs cannot perfuse
hold for 1-2 mins
swing legs off bed
assess for discolouration
- blue then red = deoxygenated to hyeraemia
what to offer in a vasc exam?
BP for both, Ankle Brachial pressure index, foot exam and blood glucose
