how to start the exam?
WH, introduce self, identify patient, explain procedure, gain consent
what is being assessed in the hands and arms?
clubbing, pitting, temp, colour, pulse, hair loss, skin integrity, tremor. ASTERIXIS.
what is being assessed in the face?
eyes: pallor,
mouth: dryness, dental health
what should be assessed in the neck?
lymphnodes
exposure of the chest is to assess for
scars, muscle bulk, colour of skin, feel temp
what is being palpated for?
9 sections of the abdomen. superficial and deep
liver
spleen
kidneys
bladder
what is percussed?
9 sections and liver for dullness.
what is being auscultated
9 sections, bowel sounds. aortic and renal bruits.
how should the patient be positioned while being examined?
lying down to reduce tension of stomach muscles.
what can be used to finish the assessment?
checking for pedal oedema
