Variables Flashcards
What are varibles?
Factors that influence the outcome of an investigation
State the three variables
Independent, dependent and fixed
What is the independent variable?
- One thing you can change
- Only one in an experiment
- thing that is different or changes
- The investigator can control
*
What word should you use when describing the independent variable?
Different
What should you write for the independent variable?
Two marks
Different (1) … variable (1)
What should you not write when describing the independent variable?
- Give a reason
- Give a measurement
What is the dependent variable?
Changes that happens because of the independent variable.
The outcome/results/observation
What words help identify the dependent variable?
- Measure
- Observe
What words should you use when describing the dependent variable?
Two marks
Verb (observe/measure) … the variable
What should you not write when describing the dependent variable?
Don’t:
- give a reason
- give a measurement
What is the fixed variable?
Remains constant and unchanged. Ensures that there is only one independent variable
How do you identify the fixed variable?
- Measurements are the same
- Words such as each
How should one explain the fixed variable?
Three marks
- Words such as same, constant, each
