When is valvuloplasty indicated for Aortic stenosis?
A
Valvuloplasty = opening up with balloon
Indicated as bridge to therapy or to buy time.
Example pregnant and severe AS, less anaesthetic risk.

Criteria for severe aortic stenosis?
Tx options
A
AV area 40 mmHg
Peak aortic velocity > 4 m/s
Normal valve area is 3-4 cm2
First line: Aortic valve replacement if no CI
If CI then TAVI

When is a TAVI (Transcatheter aortic valve replacement) indicated?

Severe AS where surgical AVR too high risk and life expectancy > 2 year
