Value-Based Choice Flashcards
What are the 2 types of choice?
Value-based choice
Perceptual choice
What is the main difference in the decision-making process between perceptual choice and value-based choice?
Sensory inputs only in perceptual choice
Multiple factors in value-based choice - sensory inputs, memories, internal states/goals
What are the steps in the decision-making process?
Representation Valuation Action selection Outcome evaluation Learning
Which steps does learning update in the decision-making process?
Representation
Valuation
Action selection
Name and describe the 3 value systems
Pavlovian - innate value assigned to stimulus, inflexible
Habitual - associate new stimulus with stimulus that already has value - gives value to new stimulus, flexible
Goal-directed - most sophisticated, very flexible, computationally-intense
What is expected utility theory?
Estimate likely utility of action
Rational choice is action with highest expected utility
How do vmPFC lesions affect value-based decisions?
More preference transitivity errors - less consistency in logic of preferences
Which types of inputs does the vmPFC receive?
Internal states/goals
Sensory inputs
Memories
What does the vmPFC do?
Determines common currency of stimuli
Conducts action selection
