Validity/Reliability Flashcards
Ecological validity definition
The extent to which a study represents a real life scenario
Benefits of ecological validity
-Useful/more applicable findings
-People would act more natural
-More funding for the research
Population validity definition
The extent to which the sample is generalisable.
Benefits of population validity
-Ensures the sample represents the population as a whole
-Ensures the sampling method is acceptable
Construct validity definition
Where the tests has been shown to measure what it is supposed to be testing
3 elements of construct validity
-Lying
-Quality of test
-Extraneous variables
Benefits of construct validity
-Ensures the data produced is accurate
-Ensures the data produced is relevant to the aim of the study
Internal reliability definition
Whether the procedure is standardised and can be repeated
External reliability definition
Whether the study has enough participants to establish a consistent effect
Inter-rater reliability definition
The extent to which several observers agree on what they’re looking for
Ethnocentrism
The extent to which a study is focused on one culture and cannot be generalised to others
