Graphical user interfaces definition
A form of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and audio indicators eg phone screens. Contains WIMP for the user to interact with the computer
GUI advantages
Intuitive, easy to use and user friendly
Visually pleasing design
There are usually options to adapt the interface according to the users individuals users needs, for example screen magnifying and changing colours and font sizes
GUI disadvantages
Uses a lot of storage for all the graphics and takes up a lot of resources to run the GUI
System functionally cannot be adjusted or adapted
Experiences users can find it frustrating to completing tasks they could perform quicker with one command in a CLI
Command line interface description
Text based UI used to run programs, manage computers, and interact with the computer
CLI advantages
Requires less RAM and processor power to use than a GUI therefore have much more storage etc available to them
Quicker for experienced users to complete tasks
CLI disadvantages
Commands must be types precisely. If there is a spelling error the command will fail
Learning so many new commands can be intimidating for inexperienced users
Required specific knowledge of the commands and their function
