Multifunctional Devices
These devices can perform multiple functions like inputting and outputting data.
Touchscreen will output data on a screen and will also allow the user to input data using their finger or a stylus like in an iPad or mobile phone.
Printers can print and be used as scanners in the same device.
Personal Computers
A computer is a multipurpose device that is intended for personal use, this can include a laptop, PC, or iPad with wireless keyboard.
Personal Computers will provide an interface for users such as laptops, micro computers or tablets.
Tablets and laptops can be transported easily for a school environment, yet desktops are unable to be transported and easily and are mostly stationary.
Mobile Devices
A piece of portable electronic equipment that can connect to the internet, especially a smartphone or tablet computer.
A mobile phone can be used to make calls, send texts and use Apps for entertainment or banking.
Servers
A computer or computer program which manages access to a centralized resource or service in a network.
For example, Netflix will have a server that stores all their films that everyone else can access.
Also, in a workplace an employee may log in to the client computer to access the files and applications that the server runs.
Entertainment Systems
An entertainment system is a system of entertainment usually of electronic components that handle audio and video, video gaming, computers, etc.
Digital entertainment systems are now found in many homes including portable compact disc (CD) players for listening to music, digital versatile disc (DVD) players for movies and music videos, digital cameras, and game consoles.
People also increasingly use personal computers networked to the Internet for games and chats.
Digital Cameras
A digital camera is a camera that captures photographs in digital memory.
There are two “types” of digital cameras, non-SLR digital cameras and digital SLR cameras.
Digital Cameras are used to take photographs in situations like weddings, events, landscapes etc. They can store photos on SD cards and can also upload photos to the cloud
Navigation Systems
A set of equipment designed to assist or automate navigation in a vehicle, ship, or aircraft.
Car satnavs use Global Positioning Systems to locate where the car is and how to get to a set location input by the user
Mobile Phones have built in GPS for apps such as Google Maps which provide different travel options and how long to would take to travel using each one
Communication devices and systems
A hardware device capable of transmitting an analog or digital signal over the telephone, other communication wire, or wirelessly.
Telephones and fax machines are examples but more modern examples are routers which direct data across networks.
Data Capture and collection systems
A device which collects data using systems rather than being directly inputted into a device
Barcode scanners converts the information read on a barcode into data.
EPOS systems track and record changes in sales and stock to keep the information updated.
