Pseudomonas - recurrent infections
Staphyloccus aureus - haematogenous spread - abscesses
Candida - indwelling catheter
UTI Sx
Classic - Frequency, dysuria, abdo pain, foul smelling urine
Elderly - delirium, falls
<2 years old - fever, vomiting, not eating
Pyelonephritis - fever + rigors, loin pain
UTI Ix
Can be clinical dx
Urine dip - leuk+, nit+
Urine MCS - >10^4 colony forming units
What can indicate a contaminated urine sample
Squamous epithelial cells
Mixed growth
UTI Mx
Lower UTI - nitrfurantoin/trimethoprim/cephalexi3d(uncomplicated) or 7d (complicated
Pyeloneph - admit, IV co-amox + gent
