Q

describe features of posterior wall of prostatic urethra

A
  • Urethral crest: longituidal fusiform median ridge
  • Prostatic sinus: groove on each side of urethral crest recieving prostatic duct opening
  • Seminal colliculus: elevation of urethral crest showing 3 openings:
1.Prostatic utricle: small pouch from median lobe of prostate
2.Two ejaculatory ducts on each side of the urethral crest

Q

Course of membranous urethra of male

A
  1. Begins at lower part of prostate (cont. of prostatic urethra)
  2. passes downwards & forewards in deep perineal pouch, laying between 2 membranes: Pelvic fascia above & perineal membrane below
  3. Becomes surrounded by Sphincter urethrae, to end in bulb of penis as Penile urethra

16
Q

Dilatations of Penile urethra

A
  • Intra-bulbar fossa (in bulb): recieving Bulbourethral gland ducts
  • Navicular fossa (in glans): with small recess called lacuna magna lying in the rood of the fossa
17
Q

Sphincters of the Male urethra

A

Internal: Involuntary, at beginning of urethra, controlled by autonomic fibers
External: voluntary, at the membranous urethra, controlled by perineal br. of pudendal N

18
Q

female urethra opens in:

A

Vestibule, immediately in front of vaginal opening, 1 inch behind clitoris

19
Q

glands of female urethra

A

Skene’s glands (2 small paraurethral glands): open in lateral margin of external urethral orifice of female
