Prostate Flashcards
relations of base of prostate
- Continuous with neck of bladder
- pierced by preprostatic urethra
relations of apex of prostate
- Rests on pelvic fascia
- junction between prostatic & membranous urethra
relations of anterior surface of prostate
- Santorini’s venous plexus
- loose fatty tissue
- symphysis pubis
- Connected to pubis by puboprostatic ligament
- Urethra emerges from it to become membranous urethra
Relations of posterior surface of prostate
- prostatic capsule
- denovillier’s fascia
- 2 ejaculatory ducts
- rectum
Relations of inferolateral surface of prostate
Anterior fibers of levator Ani
Structures within the prostate
- Prostatic urethra
- prostatic utricle between 2 ejaculatory ducts
- 2 ejaculatory ducts
Lobes of the prostate
Median Lobe:
* lies between ejaculatory ducts posterior & urethra anterior
* forms elevation called bladder uvula in bladder cavity behind internal urethral orifice
2 Lateral Lobes:
* lies on each side of prostatic urethra
* connected anteriorly by fibromuscular band = Anterior lobe or isthmus
covering of the prostate
True capsule : fibrous capsule
False Capsule:
* Condensation of pelvic fascia around prostate
* continuous with Vesical fascia superiorly
* Continuous with denovillier fascia in front of rectum (anteriorly)
what lies in between the 2 capsules of the prostate
Prostatic venous plexus
Arterial supply of Prostate
- Inferior vesical A
- Middle rectal A
- Internal Pudendal A
Venous drainage of prostate
prostatic venous plexus
tributaries & communications of prostatic venous plexus
tributaries: deep dorsal Veins of clitoris/penis
comminicates with vesical venous plexus above
prostatic venous plexus drains into:
- Vesical Vein
- Internal Iliac Vein
explain why prostate cancer can spread to vertebrae
prostatic venous plexus is connected to venous plexuses in front of vertebral bodies within the neural canal by Valveless vertebral veins of bateson
Lymph drainage of prostate
- Internal Iiac LNs
- Sacral LNs
- Obturator LNs
Posterior surface: external Iliac LNs along vesical vessels
