Ovary Flashcards
Boundaries of ovarian fossa
- Anterior: External Iliac vessels
- Posterior: Internal Iliac vessels & ureter
- Floor of fossa: Obturator Nerve & vessels
Relation of Anterior border of ovary:
Attached to posterior surface of broad ligament by Mesovarium
Relations of posterior border of ovary
- Internal iliac vessels
- ureter
(same as Ovarian fossa)
relations of Superior/ tubal pole of ovary
- Fimbria of fallopian (ovarian) tube
- Attachement of suspensory ligment of ovary
Relations of Inferior/ uterine pole of ovary
- Attachement for ovarian ligmanet: attaches ovary to cornu of uterus
Relations of medial surface of ovary
Uterus
Relations of lateral surface of ovary
lateral pelvic wall
Peritoneal covering of ovary
completeley covered by periotoneum
Ovarian Vessels and nerves are transmitted through:
first, suspensory ligament of uterues, then through mesovarium
Ovraian ligament is an embryonic remnant of:
upper part of Gubernaculum
Origin of ovarian Artery
(gonadal A) from Abdominal Aorta level L2, below origin of renal A
course of ovarian A
- Descends lateraly into pelvic inlet
- enters suspensory ligament of ovary
- enters mesovarium to reach ovary
Distribution of ovarian A
- Ovary
- Lateral 1/5 of fallopian tube
- anastomoses freely with uterine A
origin, course & termination of ovarian Vein
- emerges from ovary as pampiniform venous plexus
- 2 veins arise from the plexus and ascend with ovarian A into suspensory ligament of ovary
- they then form 1 vein and drain in:
* Right side: IVC
* Left side: left Renal Vein
Lymph drainage of ovary
Para-aortic lymph nodes
