improving air quality

  • Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) - area whereall private vehicles need to meet exhaust emission standards or pay a daily charge to travel
  • April 2019 most polluting cars, vans and motorbikes need to pay £12.50 to drive thru the centre, while buses, coaches and HGVs will pay £100.
  • Covers same area as existing congestion zone + in addition to the congestion charge
  • standards = vehicles that do not meet Euro 4 standards and diesel vehicles that do not meet Euro 6 standards
  • applies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • black taxis are exempt
