Redness on inspection
Self limiting
Primary viral infection

What is tonsillitis?

A
Inflammation of the tonsils
Can be caused by viruses or bacteria
Investigated with throat swab 
Give nothing or penicillin - not amoxicillin
Strep pyogenes most common microorganism
Adenovirus common virus

A

Caused by para’flu 1
Patient appears well
Coryza, stridor, hoarse voice
Treat with oral dexamethasone

Caused by H. influenza type b 
Rare 
Toxic
Stridor and drooling are signs
Intubation and IV antibiotics necessary
