/Bulging ear drum Fever and sore ear Redness on inspection Self limiting Primary viral infection Spontaneous rupture of drum

What is tonsillitis?
A
Inflammation of the tonsils Can be caused by viruses or bacteria Investigated with throat swab Give nothing or penicillin - not amoxicillin Strep pyogenes most common microorganism Adenovirus common virus

What is croup?
A
Caused by para’flu 1
Patient appears well
Coryza, stridor, hoarse voice
Treat with oral dexamethasone

What is epiglottitis?
A
Inflammation of the epiglottis Caused by H. influenza type b Rare Toxic Stridor and drooling are signs Intubation and IV antibiotics necessary Dont use a tongue depressor
