unknown anatomy part 2 - innervation... Flashcards
Sympathetic supply
thoracolumbar outflow T1-L2, sympathetic chain also known as para vertebral chain or prevertebral ganglia
Parasympathetic supply
Craniosacral outflow - some cranial nerves + S2, S3 and S4
Sympathetic trunk
Like a string of beads in front of vertebrae with the beads being ganglia
Where must a sympathetic nerve fibre go to get from the vertebrae to the sympathetic chain (T1-T4/5)
Start at lateral grey horn (in vertebra) to ventral ramus of spinal nerve
Through white ramus communicantes
To paravertebral ganglion
After synapsing, it leaves the ganglion (grey rami communicantes) and passes to pulmonary/cardiac/oesophageal plexi
which levels do the greater, lesser and least splanchnic nerves arise from
Greater: T5-9
Lesser: T10-11
Least: T12
How splanchnic nerves leave vertebra (T5-T12)
Same route as sympathetic trunk, but when they enter the ganglion, they don’t synapse
They synapse in the prevertebral (pre-aortic) ganglia and then pass to abdominal viscera
