Unit 7 Flashcards
A mutually agreed-upon document between parties that specifies a contingent relationship between the completion of specific behaviors and access to reinforcers.
Behavior contract
A research design in which a number of different goal levels are set for the behavior during the treatment phase.
Changing criterion design
An alternative behavior that occurs in place of another target behavior.
Competing response
A component of the habit reversal procedure in which the client is taught to engage in a competing response contingent on the occurrence of the habit behavior or contingent on the urge to engage in the habit behavior.
Competing response training
The target behavior that is influenced in a self-management project.
Controlled behavior
The use of self-management strategies in which the antecedents and consequences of a target behavior and/or alternative behaviors are modified.
Controlling behavior
A variation of the multiple baseline design in which an initial baseline, and perhaps intervention, are begun for one behavior (or setting, or subject), and subsequent baselines for additional behaviors are begun in a staggered or delayed fashion.
Delayed multiple baseline design
A type of relaxation exercise in which one engages in slow, rhythmic breathing, using the diaphragm muscle to pull air deep into the lungs.
Diaphragmatic breathing
A self-management strategy in which the person decides on and writes down the desired level of the target behavior he or she hopes to achieve as a result of self-management procedures.
Goal setting
A repetitive behavior in one of three categories: nervous habits, tics, and stuttering.
Habit behavior
Part of the habit reversal procedure used to increase the likelihood that the client will use the competing response outside the treatment sessions to control the habit.
Motivation strategy
A research design in which there is a baseline and a treatment phase for two or more behaviors of the same person.
Multiple baseline across behaviors design
A research design in which there is a baseline and treatment phase for the same behavior of the same subject in two or more different settings.
Multiple baseline across settings design
A research design in which there is a baseline and treatment phase for two or more people exhibiting the same target behavior. The implementation of treatment is staggered across time for each subject.
Multiple baseline across subjects design
An experimental design that begins with the concurrent measurement of two or more behaviors in a baseline condition, followed by the application of the treatment variable to one of the behaviors while baseline conditions remain in effect for the other behavior(s).
