Unit 4 Homeostasis Lesson 1 8.0 Flashcards
What is feedback in terms of homeostasis?
A cycle of events in which a variable, such as body temperature, blood glucose level, or blood pH, is continually monitored, assessed and adjusted
What are three three components of homeostasis feedback?
Sensor
Control Centre
Effector
What does the sensor component do?
detects a change in the internal environment and sends a signal to a control center
What does the control centre component do?
sets a range of values within which a variable should be maintained, receives information from the sensor, and sends signals to effectors when needed
What does the effector component do?
receives signals from a control center and responds, resulting in a change to an internal variable
What are three examples of where feedback in homeostasis is used?
Blood Glucose
Temperature
Systolic Blood Pressure
Blood pH
