Unit 3-Molecular Genetics Lesson 5 15.0 Flashcards
1
Q
Where does mRNA splicing occur?
A
Occurs in a spliceosome (pre-mRNA and smallribonucleoproteins snRNPS).
2
Q
How do snRNPs bind?
A
In a particular order to an intron in the pre-mRNA.
3
Q
In mRNA splicing, what first occurs?
A
snRNPs recognize and form complementary base pairs with mRNA sequences at the junctions of the intron and exons
4
Q
What also happens?
A
Other snRNPs are then recruited, causing the intron to loop out and bring the two exons together
