What is a common cold?
A usually viral sickness that causes sneezing, stuffy nose, and coughing.
What is the flu?
The flu is a virus that causes body aches, fever, and headache.
What is Asthma?
Asthma is a condition where airways are narrow and swollen. It causes difficulty breathing, SBH, and WZ.
What are allergies?
Inflammation of the respiratory tract due to histamine release. Causes sneezing, mucous buildup, runny nose, and coughing.
What is Parkinson’s?
A movement disorder where the brain doesn’t produce enough dopamine. This causes symptoms like trembling of hands, arms, jaw, and face.
What is Alzheimers’s?
Alzheimer’ is the destruction of brain cells that produce acetylcholine. Causes dementia, trouble with speaking, writing, reading.
What are migraines?
Severe headache causing head pain, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
What is depression?
Depression is low serotonin in the brain that causes depressed mood, insomnia, and thoughts of suicide.
What is Insomnia?
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder where you have trouble falling or staying asleep.
What is psychosis?
Psychosis is a mental disorder caused by abnormal thinking or perceptions (hallucinations). May also be called schizophrenia.
What is bipolar disorder?
A mental disorder that cycles between depression and mania(high feeling)
What are seizures?
Seizures are hyperactivity in the brain. Causes involuntary movements and can cause loss of consciousness.
What is Hypothyroidism?
Thyroid gland doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone. Can cause weight gain, hair thinning, and depression.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition that occurs when blood sugar is too high for a long period of time.
What is type 1 diabetes vs 2?
Type 1 is insulin dependent. Type 2 is non insulin dependent.
What is Breast cancer?
Abnormal cell growths in breast cells
What is Menopause?
Ovaries stop producing estrogen and progesterone. Leads to hot flashes, depression, etc
What is pregnancy?
Fetal growth for 9 months
What is a yeast infection?
Fungal infection of the genitals; can be caused by antibiotic use, may cause itching, vaginal discharge, and discomfort.
What is Erectile dysfunction?
Trouble getting or keeping an erection
What is prostate cancer?
Cancer in the cells of the prostate
What is an enlarged prostate?
Prostate cells enlarge causing blockage of urine. Also called benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)
What is COPD?
Chronic condition that narrows breathing airways; causes shortness of breath, mucus production and chest tightness.
What is Pneumonia?
Inflammation of the airways due to virus, bacteria, or Fungi
What is Hepatitis?
Inflammation of the liver due to alcohol, medications, or viral infections
What are Hemorrhoids?
Swollen, inflamed veins in anus or lower rectum due to straining or pregnancy
What is Colon Cancer?
Abnormal tumor growth in the colon or rectum that can spread to other parts of the body
What is Acid Reflux?
Acid from the stomach travels up the espohagus, causing burning
What is Constipation?
Hard stools caused by too much water being absorbed from feces
What is Diarrhea?
Loose stools caused by not enough water being absorbed by the GI tract
What is Arrythmias?
Heart beats irregularly
What is Atrial fibrilation?
Top chambers of heart don’t beat normally and can cause blood clots
What is Heart failure?
Heart muscle is weakened and can’t pump properly.
What is Hypertension?
Blood pressure is high in the blood vessels leading to rupturing of blood vessels.
What is hypercholesterolemia?
Cholesterol builds up in arteries leading to heart attack.
What is an embolism?
Stroke, blood forms and blocks blood to organ. Lead to tissue damage and death due to lack of blood flow.
What is Dermatitis?
Inflammation of the skin
What is Eczema?
Dry, itchy patches of skin
What is Psoriasis?
Patches of thick red skin due to a build up of skin cells.
What is Acne?
Hair follicles become plugged with oil and deadskin.
What is skin cancer?
Abnormal skin cell production.
What is hyperthyroidism?
Graves disease. An overproduction of thyroid hormones.
What is Hashimoto’s disease?
Immune system attacks the thyroid at first leading to excess thyroid but resulting in hypothyroidism over time.
What is glaucoma?
Increased fluid inside the eye that can place pressure on optic nerve and damage it.
What is Conjunctivitis?
Inflammation of the eye usually due to infection.
what is otitis media?
Infection of middle ear.
What is Renal failure?
Loss of kidney function which causes buildup of toxins in the blood.
What is menopause?
Ovaries stop producing estrogen and progesterone. Leads to hot flashes, depression, etc
What is pneumonia?
Inflammation fo the airways due to virus, bacteria or fungi.
What is Arthritis?
Inflammation of the joint that causes, swelling, pain, and trouble moving.
What is gout?
Uric acid crystal formation in joints. Can cause pain and swelling in the joints.
What is osteoporosis?
A condition in which bones become weak and brittle. Bone growth doesn’t keep up with old bone removal.
What is anemia?
Lowered amount of healthy red blood cells
What is hemophilia?
A disorder in which blood doesn’t clot normally.
