Unit 3 Lecture 17 Topic 1 Flashcards
Fabric (textile):
A manufactured assembly of fibres/yarns with large surface area relative to thickness. Fabrics are most commonly woven or knitted, but the term includes assemblies produced by felting and other nonwoven processes, lace-making, net-making, and tufting.
Woven fabrics:
Two or more sets of yarns interlaced at right angles to each other.
Knitted fabrics:
One or more sets of yarns interlooped to form a fabric.
No woven fabrics:
Webs of fibres held together by physical interlocking of the fibres (felt), or heat bonding, adhesive bonding, or stitching through the fibre web.
Braided fabric:
One set of yarns interlaced obliquely (on an angle) with each other.
Netting:
One set of yarns knotted at regular intervals to form an openwork structure.
Lace:
Openwork fabric consisting of a complex network of intertwisted threads.
Composite structures:
Fabrics which generally consist of one or more textile components.
Quilted fabric:
A composite structure with a woven face and back, and a non-woven middle joined with stitching.
Bonded and Laminated fabrics:
A composite structure where fabric layers are joined with foam or an adhesive.
