To carry messages around the body, allowing communication
What is the central nervous system (CNS) made up of?
Brain and Spinal cord
What is the brain and spinal cord responsible for?
Receiving information from our 5 senses
The brain is split into two halves - what does that right hemisphere control?
Left side of the body

Right side of the body
What are both the hemispheres connected by?
Corpus callosum
What are the 2 main branches of the peripheral nervous system?
Somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system
What type of functions does the somatic nervous system control?
Voluntary functions
What type of functions does the autonomic nervous system control?
involuntary functions
What does reductionism mean?
Reducing complex behaviour down to simple units
How is the biological approach reductionist?
It reduces complex behaviour down to internal factors like the nervous system

Sympathetic Nervous System and Parasympathetic Nervous System
What is the role of the Parasympathetic Nervous System?
rest and digest - body returns back to homeostasis
What is the role of the Sympathetic Nervous System?
flight or flight - physiological arousal
