Define ‘growth’.
Growth is the physical increase of size, weight, and circumference of the head mostly when you go through ‘Infancy’ and ‘Adolescence’.
Define ‘development’.
Development is the intellectual change and progression, intelligence and skill. Development is a progression to be completed in a series of sequences (development norms).
Define ‘lifespan’.
It is the time someone lives, from birth till death.
Define ‘life stages’.
Life stages are a series of ‘stages’ what a person experiences throughout their lives and the stages are categorised between ages.
What are Development Norms?
Development Norms are the expected patterns of growth and development throughout the life stages.
What are the Principles of Growth?
Growth is continuous but sporadic (occasional).
Growth happens mostly during puberty and infancy.
No two individuals grow at the same rate, even if they’re monozygotic.
Both genders will grow differently.
Different parts of the body vary in growth.
What are Milestones?
Milestones are achievements which can be reached by developing skills (PIES) and also assorted by reaching certain ages (referring to life stages).
Define ‘physical development’.
It is the growth and other physical change throughout their life.
Define ‘intellectual development’.
It is the development in language, memory and thinking skills.
Define ‘emotional development’.
It is the ability to cope with feelings about ourselves and others.
Define ‘social development’.
It is the ability to form friendships and learning to be independent.
