- Many services like schools and clinics have to shut down through lack of people
- Lack of skilled and innovative workers
- Public transport can’t develop
- Difficult to defend country esp since AU has large coastline
- Cannot exploit mineral and other resources –> sold many of it’s mineral reserves to China
- Lesser taxpayers
- Necessary to attract migrants

- Attracting immigrants through means like uni scholarships
- Preference to skilled workers to make up for brain drain
- 1 in 4 of population was born abroad
- To make up for closing of schools and clinics, employ schemes like flying doctors, school in the air and remote learning
