Ulcers Flashcards
Peptic Ulcer Disease Symptoms
Common not to have any pain or symptoms as the gastric and duodenal mucosa is not rich in sensory pain fibres.
With duodenal ulcers pain is often described as burning or cramp like and located midgastric region beneath the xyphoid process
Gastric ulcers the pain is in the epigastrium and often described as burning.
Major complications include hemorrhage, perforation and gastric outlet obstruction.
Treatment of Gastritis
focuses on eliminating the cause and preventing or avoiding it in the future. The plan of care is supportive.
PUD treatment
Conservative treatment of PUD consists of adequate rest, drug therapy, lifestyle changes (smoking cessation and dietary management), and long-term follow-up care. The aim of treatment is to decrease gastric acidity and enhance mucosal defense mechanisms.
Parient Education
