Types of Production Flashcards
What are the 3 types of production?
Primary
Secondary
Tertiary
What is primary production?
The is the extraction of raw materials from the environment
Examples of primary production
Farming
Fishing
Quarrying
Forestry
What is secondary production?
Takes the raw materials produced in the primary sector and turns them into finished products
What is tertiary production?
The selling of goods and the provision of services
What is the chain of production?
The various production stages through which a product passes before being sold to a consumer
What does the chain of production show?
That businesses and their customers are highly interdependent
What is the changing trend across the types of production?
Deindustrialisation
2% of worker in primary
18% in secondary
80% in tertiary
What is one of the reasons for deindustrialisation?
In the primary sector farming has become more mechanised and fewer people are needed to work the modern machinery. Secondary jobs have also been lost because of automation
What is another reason for deindustrialisation?
The agriculture industry has had difficult times because prices offered for its goods have been reduced. Milk and potatoes are examples
What is a third reason for deindustrialisation?
There is now more demand for services such as education, personal banking, insurance for property and cars, investment and legal advice, therefore this has created more jobs in the tertiary sector.
