What is included in the analysis?
What skills and qualifications are required.
How many new employees are needed.
Are the new employees required full-time or part-time.

What is included in the job description document?
Title of job, place where job will be done, a list of main duties, for whom or to whom the person is responsible, working conditions of job and expected pay
What is included in the person specification?
Physical features, personal qualities, knowledge, intelligence, previous work experience, qualifications and skills
What details are included in the contract of the job?
Names of employer and employee.
Date of commencing the job.
Title and description of job.
Hours of work.
Agreed rates and methods of payment.
Details of pension schemes.
Length of paid holiday.
Level and duration of sickness.
Length of period notice to be given.
Advantages of internal recruitment (Notice boards, internal news sheets or sending memos)
The employees’s abilities are already known.
It is less expensive.
Reduces risk of employing wrong person
Disadvantages of internal recruitment
It may not attract a large number of applicants.
Does not bring in new blood as external recruitment would.
It does not allow for specialisation.
Advantages of external recruitment
Range of applicants is wider.
Brings new skills and ideas into the business.
Avoids jealousies amount existing employees.
Disadvantages of external recruitment
The applicants are not familiar with the business.
Existing staff may feel undervalued and demotivated.
Slower process than internal recruitment.
Methods of external recruitment
The media - newspaper and magazines.
Private employment agencies.
Job centre - government run.
Headhunting.
Broadcast media.
Internet.
Social networking sites.
Careers fairs.

Size of business.
Amount of money available for advertising.

Allows for two-way communication.

What categories fall under legal control on recruitment?
Race, religion, disability, gender, marital status and sexual orientation
What falls under race?
Colour, ethnic origin, national origin and nationality
What is the equality commission?
Its aim is to help build a more equal society in NI. It is an independent public body which oversees equality and discrimination law in NI
How does the equality commission achieve its aim?
Working to eliminate unlawful discrimination.
Promoting equality of opportunity and encouraging good practise.
Promoting good relations between people of different racial groups.
