What is random sampling?

A

People are randomly selected and asked for their opinions on a product. It may be taken as in every tenth of a person. There is chance that the person asked may not know anything about the product

Advantages of random sampling

A
  1. Personal opinions are given
  2. Everyone had a chance of being chosen
  3. They are easily organised and cheap

Disadvantages of random sampling

A
  1. Results are not accurate unless large sample is used
  2. Method is unsuitable for some products e.g. highly specialised products
  3. May not reach the most appropriate people

What is quota sampling?

A

Where interviews are held with a set number of people who fall into RPE determined categories and reflect the type of product e.g. 50% males and 50% females. Also important that it reflects the composition if the people in the area

Advantages of quota sampling

A
  1. Results more accurate than random sampling
  2. More likely to reach the appropriate people
  3. Personal opinion ps are given by those surveyed
