What is random sampling?
A
People are randomly selected and asked for their opinions on a product. It may be taken as in every tenth of a person. There is chance that the person asked may not know anything about the product

Advantages of random sampling
A
- Personal opinions are given
- Everyone had a chance of being chosen
- They are easily organised and cheap

Disadvantages of random sampling
A
- Results are not accurate unless large sample is used
- Method is unsuitable for some products e.g. highly specialised products
- May not reach the most appropriate people

What is quota sampling?
A
Where interviews are held with a set number of people who fall into RPE determined categories and reflect the type of product e.g. 50% males and 50% females. Also important that it reflects the composition if the people in the area

Advantages of quota sampling
A
- Results more accurate than random sampling
- More likely to reach the appropriate people
- Personal opinion ps are given by those surveyed

Disadvantages of quota sampling
A
- The composition of the population must be known for the correct proportions to be interviewed
- The method is unsuitable for some products
