A

Survival - to have enough money.
Security - feel safe and secure perhaps from unemployment.
Social - people need to belong to a group and to have friends.
Status - they need to be respected in the community.
Self-Actualisation - ambition to achieve as much as they possibly can.

Financial methods of motivation?

A

Bonus - additional payments above normal wage. Reward for good performance or sales bonus.
Commission - employee will receive payment based on the amount of sales they make.
Fringe benefits - additional perks given on top of wage or salary e.g. company car, health insurance or paid holidays.
Profit sharing - involves giving the workers part of the profits of the organisation.

A

Workers are motivated by money and will try to work harder to achieve a higher wage.
Competitive work environment can develop where employees win compete against each other.

Non-financial methods of motivation

A

Job rotation - worker will move between different jobs at the same or similar complexity, so that they don’t become bored.
Team working - will increase morale and job satisfaction as they are working with others.
Quality circles - small group of employees led by a supervisor who attempt to identify a solution to a work-related problem.
Flexible working - allows worker to have some choice about when to start and finish work.

Factors affecting job satisfaction

A

Wage/salary - more an employee gets the more motivated they are.
Responsibility - gives worker a feeling of self-worth and of being trusted.
Success - worker gets a sense of success or achievement from doing a good piece of work.
Enjoyment - no job satisfaction in work which you dislike no matter how good the wages are.
