What are practical tests?
Applicant asked to undertake a piece of work which would test skills required in the business.
What are psychometric tests?
Provide a description of the personality of the applicant and results are compared with the person spec.
What are aptitude, attainment and intelligence tests?
Aptitude - show how well a potential employee might handle a job related problem.
Attainment - measure the level of skills that an employee has.
Intelligence- measure a candidates’ gender Al knowledge
Advantages of testing
Tests help recruit the right people with the right mix of abilities.
Useful for sitting out a large number of applicants at an early stage.
Can be effective in selecting routes for career progression for current employees.
Disadvantages of testing
Applicants can feel under pressure which means they can get nervous and not perform as well as they could have.
There is a potential for discrimination in results.
Advantages for interviews
Shows the level of the applicant’s oral communication skills.
It shows the applicants personality and appearance.
Shows applicants attitude and confidence.
Disadvantages of interviews
It can be intimidating so the interviewee may become nervous.
Risk of bias.

Employer and employee must be totally honest with each other. Documents provided must be accurate and clear.
