Ideal Segmental Alignment: Lateral View
* Head: Neutral position
* Cervical Spine: Normal lordosis
* Scapulae: Flat against the upper back
* Thoracic Spine: Normal Kyphosis
* Lumbar Spine: Normal Lordosis
* Pelvic: Neutral position, Anterior Superior Spines in the same vertical plane as the pubic symphysis
* Hips: Neutral Position
* Knees: Neutral Position
* Ankle: Neutral Position (leg is vertical at a right angle to the sole of the foot)

KYPHOSIS-LORDOSIS POSTURE:

A
  • Head: Forward
    * Cervical Spine: Hyperextended
  • Scapulae: Abducted
  • Thoracic Spine: Increasing flexion (kyphosis)
  • Lumbar Spine: Hyperextended (lordosis)
    * Pelvic: Anterior Tilt
  • Hips: Flexed
  • Knees: Slightly hyperextended
  • Ankle: Slight plantar flexion, due to
    posterior inclination of the legs.

Lateral View

  • Head: Forward
  • Cervical Spine: Slightly extended
  • Thoracic Spine: Increased flexion (long kyphosis) with posterior displacement of upper trunk
  • Lumbar Spine: Flexion (flattening) of low lumbar area
    * Pelvic: Posterior Tilt
  • Hips: Hyperextended with anterior
    displacement
  • Knees: Hyperextended
  • Ankle: Neutral.
