Ideal:
Ideal Segmental Alignment: Lateral View
* Head: Neutral position
* Cervical Spine: Normal lordosis
* Scapulae: Flat against the upper back
* Thoracic Spine: Normal Kyphosis
* Lumbar Spine: Normal Lordosis
* Pelvic: Neutral position, Anterior Superior Spines in the same vertical plane as the pubic symphysis
* Hips: Neutral Position
* Knees: Neutral Position
* Ankle: Neutral Position (leg is vertical at a right angle to the sole of the foot)
KYPHOSIS-LORDOSIS POSTURE:
- Head: Forward
* Cervical Spine: Hyperextended - Scapulae: Abducted
- Thoracic Spine: Increasing flexion (kyphosis)
- Lumbar Spine: Hyperextended (lordosis)
* Pelvic: Anterior Tilt - Hips: Flexed
- Knees: Slightly hyperextended
- Ankle: Slight plantar flexion, due to
posterior inclination of the legs.

SWAY-BACK POSTURE:
Lateral View
- Head: Forward
- Cervical Spine: Slightly extended
- Thoracic Spine: Increased flexion (long kyphosis) with posterior displacement of upper trunk
- Lumbar Spine: Flexion (flattening) of low lumbar area
* Pelvic: Posterior Tilt - Hips: Hyperextended with anterior
displacement - Knees: Hyperextended
- Ankle: Neutral.
FLAT-BACK POSTURE: Lateral View
Head: Forward
* Cervical Spine: Slightly extended
* Thoracic Spine: Upper part increased flexion; lower part is straight
* Lumbar Spine: Flexed (straight)
* Pelvic: Posterior Tilt
* Hips: Extended
* Knees: Extended
* Ankle: Slightly plantarflexed
“MILITARY-TYPE” POSTURE
* Head: Neutral
* Cervical Spine: Normal curvature,
slight anterior
* Thoracic Spine: Normal curvature, slight posterior
* Lumbar Spine: Hyperextended (lordosis)
* Pelvic: Anterior Tilt
* Knees: Slight hyperextended
* Ankle: Slight plantar flexed
